May 10th
The Patrick Henry Chess Team finished in 2nd place for their final tournament of the 2011-2012 season at Lee Burneson Middle School in Westlake, Ohio.
Highlights for the team included the first tournament competition for: Daysha, Mikayla, Martaevion, and Malique. All played tough games and represented PH very well.
Tamia played her best tournament of the year and finished in fourth place over all with 2.5 points. Travon played very well and entered the third round undefeated before being defeated by the eventual first place winner. He finished in seventh place overall with 2 points.

Feb 26th
The Patrick Henry Chess Team finished the final tournament round of the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Chess League with a third place finish on Saturday, Feb 25, 2012. The team continued to face solid competition from Solon Middle School and Shaker Heights Middle School.
Highlights from the day include:
Leading the middle school team with 2 points was Greg Huff who finished in 10th place overall.
Trevon Edwards continued to play strongly against very solid opposition, he scored 1.5 points over all; with his 1/2 point draw allowing the team to maintain it’s 3rd place finish.

Feb 7th
The Patrick Henry Chess Team suffered it’s first setback in the season yesterday at Max Hayes High School. The team was not able to send a full squad to the tournament due to absences of three members. As a result, the team had to forfiet a total of 4 points across the day.
Highlights for the day included very solid play from Greg Huff. Greg went undefeated for the day and posted 2 points for the day. Tamia Wagner also played very well across the day.
The team is now fighting for 2nd place in the CMSD season along with 6 other teams. CMSD tourny play will finish up next week at Max Hayes on Monday.
Jan 30th
The Patrick Henry Chess Team continued to win at Max Hayes High School last evening in the opening rounds of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Chess League. The middle school team played Benjamin Franklin to a 2-2 draw and swept Adlai Stevenson 4-0 to finish the day on Monday.
Travon Edwards lead the team with two victories on board one, along with Qu’vonta Ratliff claiming two victories on board three. Greg Huff and Tamia Wagner each added a victory to to take all four points against Stevenson.
The standings after round 2 were as follows:

Jan 29th
The Patrick Henry Chess Team continued it’s winning ways on Saturday, January 28th at Rocky River High School by taking 3rd place in the 3rd round of the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Chess League Tournament.
The middle school team played very well earning 6.5 points across 4 rounds of play. 7th grader, Travon Edwards lead the team with 3 points across the four rounds to earn 6th place overall in the K-8 Reserve Bracket. This serves as a new personal best for Travon in a USCF rated tournament. Greg Huff earned 2 points and Micquan Goolsby earned 1.5 points. Special mention goes to Tamia Wagner who after just joining the team in December has progressed to be able to play at the tournament level.
THe middle school team also had a chance to meet and talk with David Allen and Calvin Marshall who are USCF master level players, with ratings of over 2000 and currently coach at Horizon Science Academy.

The elementary team also played very well. 2nd grader, Wrahsaan Huff lead the team with a 2.5 points to finish in 10th place individually; a personal best for him this season. Charlie Favors earned 1 point to help the team finish with 3.5 points and finish in 5th place in the K-5 bracket.

The Patrick Henry Chess Team will continue tournament play for the next three weeks on Mondays after school at Max Hayes High School in Cleveland, Ohio as part of the CMSD Chess League.

Dec 13th
Seven players from the chess team departed from the school at 8:30 am to play in the tournament and did not finish until after 9 PM on Saturday. The students played five games that lasted over 90 min a game. During the 5 rounds, students saw some of the best players in the state at their grade level.

The 7th graders were able to compete as a team by having 4 players. They collected 6 points across the rounds to finish in 5th place in the State of Ohio. Competion was very tight as a total of 3.5 points seperated the entire field from first to last place.
Individual performance highlights include:
Greg Huff whio collected 3 points during his five rounds of play and finished 15th over all in the 7th grade section and also to Travon Edwards who finished 23rd over all with 2 points.
Micquan Goolsby was playing in his first tournament for the school. Both Micquan and Noah Rush each earned 1 point during the five rounds of play.

Dec 5th
The Patrick Henry Chess Team won 3rd place at Round 2 of the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Chess League Tournament on Saturday 12/2/11 in their first tournament of the year.
The K-8 team was lead by 7th grader Travon Edwards who earned 2.5 points in the four rounds of the tournament by winning draw in the 2nd round and then winning his remaining two matches. 2nd grader Wrahsaan Huff earned 1.5 points with a draw in the first round and a win in the final round. 7th grader, Greg Huff earned a point along with 7th graders Noah Rush and 5th grader Charlie Favors who were each playing in their first USCF Tournament.
The Patrick Henry Chess team travels to the University of Akron next Saturday to compeat in The Ohio Grade Level Championships

The Patrick Henry Chess Team will begin practice at school on 9/12/11. We will hold practice on Mondays from 2:15 to 3:30 PM.
